headbands, take a bow.

i've always loved headbands. growing up, my favourite was a wide pink plastic one from goody (i'm sure you know the one i'm talking about.) with teeth that pulled my hair back nice and tight—reinforced with rave non-aerosol hairspray for ultimate smoothness. my mother encouraged headbands also. well, she encouraged me pulling my hair back in general so everyone could see my pretty face.

headbands have evolved and made quite a fashion statement. some i love. others confuse me. the sampling pictured below is from ban.do and i would love to wear any of them.

i'm especially a fan of the striped glittery bow band. the sequined heart is fun, too. the prices are a little steep (the bands pictured are on ban.do's low end of $50 or less. jeepers!) but, one is to expect that of anything that's featured in gossip girl or highlighted by any other fussy celebrity or in a high-fashion spotlight.

i wonder if my mother has noticed that headbands are more of a fashion statement and less functional. i think she'd be appalled seeing that girls wear most of their hair outside of the headband. mother, if you're reading this, share your thoughts in a comment.

have any of you taken the craft to your own hands and tried to make a fancy headband yourself? i've made a feathery hair clip but not a headband. not yet.
