wise words from fashion icon, lauren hutton.

i'm following ginny's lead (over at my favorite color is shiny) and posting fashion tips--wise words, most certainly--from fashion icon, lauren hutton, featured on j.crew.com for her timeless easy chic style:
you never want to look like you've spent too much time getting dressed.
i like mixing expensive with inexpensive. and i like easy things that don't normally go together...
get to know your proportions. one of the secrets to figuring out your proportions is to really listen when people pay you a compliment, especially if you're getting the same compliments over and over. if someone says something looks good on you, look in the mirror and take note. there's a reason.
it's massively important for me to feel comfortable in what i'm wearing. it just makes me feel better, then my face looks better. when you show the world your best face and your best self, you quite often get that back.
developing your very best personal style...involves a lot of trial and error.
i want to wear whatever looks good on me, no matter where it comes from.
don't shy away from colour, but be sure to learn what works best with your skin tone.
fashion is what you're offered four times a year. style is what you pick out of that fashion...it's what you make of it once you've learned what to accept and ignore based on what best suits you.

lauren and i, we could've written these tips together. i'm with her on every point.

like her, it's incredibly important for me to be comfortable in what i'm wearing no matter the occasion. when i'm comfortable i'm more confident. and mixing pieces that wouldn't normally go together--the best fun! especially when it turns out better than you might have thought and when people notice. nothing like a kind style-related compliment to cement your personal style. colour is always fun to play with and mix up but let it not be forgotten the power behind wearing black head-to-toe. very chic. very stylish. always in fashion. no matter your proportions.

do you have personal style? how would you label your personal style? do you dabble in different fashion genres?
