elizabeth cordry had a specially designed wedding dress by wedding dress master, oscar de la renta. he was a friend of her family's and i can't help but think how lucky she is for that. oscar has been known to design a few amazing dresses in his time, no doubt, but to be able to call him friend, too, would be nothing shy of remarkable.

what a lovely wedding -- i swoon over outdoor weddings. her bridesmaids are so cute in their chic-casual printed dresses and those flowers girls, major swoon! looks like a perfect day.

mr. oscar de la renta, may you rest in peace. thank you for your impression on american fashion and gowns for women everywhere. you are an icon and your star will shine on.

last year at this time i had flowers and chairs and programs and donuts and the weather on my mind as i prepared for the biggest day of my life: my wedding day. and now, four days shy from our one-year anniversary, i'm again making lists. these lists are different--they include things like passports, notifying our banks we'll be going overseas, purchasing international chargers, finding someone to look in on suzy while we're gone, and downloading movies for the eleven-hour flight.

we leave on our anniversary, october 12th, for our honeymoon and i can hardly believe the trip is here. i can't wait to fall in love with paris in autumn; sit in cafes and write and people-watch; skip down the cobblestone alleys; lose myself in the paris evenings; and wear pretty dresses and hats.

so many things to love about kristen and michael's washington woodland wedding.

first, there's her bouquet of mountain wildflowers. gorgeous. then there's her simple, drapey dress, and soft up-do. and don't even get me started on the lovely weathered-gray picnic table setup and the dreamy red barn and strung white lights and sweeping grassy landscape. and do you agree that everyone looks like they just walked out of their forest homes, put dresses or ties on, and gathered for the wedding. 

the whole arrangement has a wonderfully relaxed feeling to it. swoon.

i love the orange-red and peachy hues of this wedding, and the way they elevate the bride's gold dress. yes, gold. lovely, right? i love when brides sway from the traditional white dress into something different; perhaps a dress that represents her better. even more incredible when it's a gold dress. what a statement!

overall, it looks like a sweet event. congrats alanna and rob!

sometimes the flower girl steals the show, usually without even trying. there's just something about a cute little girl parading down the aisle tossing out petals or holding a sign or twirling that steals the guests' hearts and renders them hopeless against snapping a photo. an excellent photographer will also notice and snatch the camera to capture the moment forever.

karley, the bride, is wearing j.crew on her wedding day. good for her. she's also the ceo's executive assistant at j.crew's corporate offices. dang. kinda want that job. her relaxed look for the 2-day affair was right in line with the casual-chic elegance j.crew has become known for over the last few years and she's lovely and appears comfortable. (mega important to be comfortable on the biggest day of your life.)

"we wanted the actual ceremony to be just us and about just us, so our only witnesses were our photographers. it was a really easy, peaceful day--we weren't nervous about anything or anyone, and [we] were able to focus completely on each other and on the commitment we were making.

"it is cliche to say, but go with what you feel comfortable and beautiful in. for the celebration dinner, i wanted something in all white to signify i was the 'bride,' but it was a party at a french bistro in brooklyn, so i also wanted something fun and not too dressy. i had a small, white m monogrammed on my white t-shirt, which was a nod to my new last name. 

"my ultimate wedding 'do': marry the person who brings out the best in you. my ultimate wedding 'don't': don't bow to pressure from anyone else about what you and your fiance want from your wedding day.

sage advice and i couldn't agree more. there's no reason to feel bad or guilty for being selfish on your wedding day. it's a big day and one of the most important ones you'll experience in your life so go ahead, make it what you want it to be because looking back, you won't want any regrets.

i was searching my gmail for a very particular note when i came across this one from my then-to-be husband. my heart leaped with glee and i felt newly-engaged again reading through it and remembering everything going on at that time. life was exciting and busy and thrilling and full of promise.

i remember the rush of feelings from that last month before our wedding day. there was anticipation and loads of emotion and a complete lack of anxiety and fear. and i loved that my guy was full of the same anticipation, too.

now we're only a few months away from being married a year and we'll get to celebrate that glorious day in paris, france. my heart is bursting. 

*we didn't walk through market square the day after our wedding after church; it was raining too hard. we mad-dashed back to our hotel.
