dying over this kitchen.

i am in love with wit & delight's kate arends' kitchen. from the farm kitchen sink (i lose control when i see beautiful farm kitchen sinks) to the floor design to the contrasting dark/light cabinets and everything in between (the open shelves, the cabinet pulls, the subway tile walls) -- SWOON. and do you see the dark frame on the inside of the windows? gorgeous.

the kitchen--my favourite room in the house.

i can easily see myself spending time cooking up meals or whipping up a cake or preparing snacks in any of these kitchens. i mean, goodness, the countertop and table in the last photo are screaming for a large dinner party.

and how about the floor in the second photo? totally in love with it. the floor looks like clay (or terracotta, maybe?) and gives the kitchen an italian/french countryside feel.

take note: all kitchens posted above have farm sinks. swoon.

someday.

gorgeous mishmash house.

i'm crazy about a lot of aspects in and around this house--and not-so-crazy for a few things; but they're hardly worth the effort of typing out. -wink-
that entryway--so lush with plants.
all the different textiles. they create a mishmash of texture and keep my eyes interested in the space.
the living room wallpaper. perky colours and design without being too garish.
the exposed beams painted white.
the large kitchen. i swoon over large kitchens. and this one has windows and appears to bathe in natural light.
the open staircase is very 1960s modern.
awesome kitchen table. it's huge and would fit an entire family, and the feast.
dang--look at that backyard/garden area. spectacular!

southwest english home under the scandinavian influence.

i'm falling head over heals for this southwest english home.

the table and chairs.
the long countertop.
the gray sofa.
the chevron wood flooring.
the shelves under the stairs.
the tiled bathroom walls.

perhaps it's the scandinavian influence that has me smitten with its design and layout.
from kathryn tyler, resident of the beautiful house pictured below: "the houses we visited in scandinavia had such a welcoming feel, often because they used lots of wood and had really well-considered layouts. they looked lived in rather than pristine and they weren't soulless like so much contemporary, modern architecture can be."

near-perfect kitchen.

lace and tea's post called this a vintage-inspired kitchen. to me, it looks more like a farmhouse or rustic country kitchen with some vintage flair. either way, i'm loving it. i love the wooden countertops and the double-basin kitchen farm sink (an absolute must for my [someday] kitchen). the white and wood are very pleasing--warm and inviting. aw--love it. want it. please, oh please, can i have it?

i can imagine lazy saturday mornings with the dogs curled up at our feet, in from our morning walk; the morning sun streaming in or snowflakes falling; eggs out and ready to be fried or scrambled; 10-grain cardamom pancakes on the griddle; glass pitchers of freshly squeezed orange juice and grapefruit juice; rye bread for toasting. doesn't that sound perfect? perfect.

polka-dot tea!

today on swirl, dailycandy's flash sale site, a housewares (i love housewares!) company that caters to both tea and coffee drinkers called classic coffee and tea was featured. i was instantly drawn to the polka-dot tea sets--the teapots are too cute!--even though i prefer stripes in just about everything else. nonetheless, they'd be super fun to build a tea party around, especially with the cooler months knocking on our doors. if i had a place to keep the whimsical sets in my tiny kitchen in my cozy apartment, i'd snatch up a set, or two, without hesitation.

mugs and cups.

fun mugs and cups over in the bailey doesn't bark etsy shop. dots are cute and fun and how awesome would it be to send a postcard mug--postcup? super great gift. the four seasons cup collection is sweet and perfect for someone like me who loves every season of the year the most. then there's the beautiful gold mug and plate. lovely. a whole set would be wonderful for an elegant bridal shower or brunch.

love your kitchen.

and if that means a little remodeling, do it. a little colour or even just new or updated hardware--knobs or pulls on cabinets and drawers--can go a long way. i'm loving these remodeled kitchens via sunset. the sliding barn door is going on my [someday] wishlist. my love for farm sinks in the kitchen is forever and i dig the slotted shelf for plates.

p.s. what is with curtains under sinks? i don't get it.

tolix chairs and stools.

they're a classic and i never get tired of seeing tolix chairs and stools. they fit into so many different occasions--weddings, cafes, home kitchens, offices, etc. i want a collection of my own someday, chairs and stools. i wonder if there's a tolix footstool...

pretty things by neëst.

pretty things for the simple life by neëst. based out of paris, the designs of neëst are japanese-inspired and fed with a scandinavian influence. read hello neëst here.

baby basket  /  fog linen tea towels  /  brush duck  /  enamel colander  /  large plate tuula  /  brush table

aren't they lovely pieces? i love how the wire basket looks filled with brown eggs. very rustic. the handle would make it a convenient partner for collecting eggs in the barn.

have you ever seen such a pretty hand broom and dustpan set? it's almost too pretty to use. the same goes for the duck brush. such a cute little duck nestled atop pristine horsehair bristles. maybe it's intended as a help-mate for parents that want to get their kids trained early on with household chores.

i would use the plates for my everyday tableware. they'd add brightness and cheer to any meal. i'm specifically picturing them with flooded with homemade bread, toasted and slathered in freshly whipped butter, and fried farm eggs with runny yolks. yum.

more farm sink love.

more kitchen farm sink love. this one is pulled from courtney and trevor's house tour via apartment therapy. i absolutely adore the way farm sinks look--all clean and paneled in white. oh. love them!

more kitchen farm sinks.

i am still smitten with farm sinks in kitchens and here are two from my scandinavian retreat that i had to share.

the charcoal walls, pewter lanterns, open shelves and raw wood island in the first kitchen picture is a style i'd very much like to mimic.

kitchen sink loving.

i've said before the kitchen is my favourite room in a house (see item no. 3 under curious things). and as i think about what i'd like my [someday] kitchen to be like, one thing is for certain: farm sink. i love the way they look and how they flood over the edge of the countertop.
